WEST RIDING CUP

Bradford Outclassed by Leeds United

In the semi-final of the West Riding Senior Cup at Elland Road, yesterday, Leeds United defeated Bradford by five goals to one. The score by no means flattered the United, for the Avenue men were outclassed throughout, and it was chiefly due to a fine display of goalkeeping by Jones that kept the score within reasonable limits. Overcoming the frost-bound condition of the ground better than their opponents, the United forward line gave the Bradford defence a gruelling time. The United left wing, Furness and Hargreaves, made repeated attacks and although most of the danger emanated from this wing, both Kelly and Turner, were strong on the opposite wing. After Furness had failed to convert a penalty kick, Trainer opened the scoring for United, and this was immediately followed by Kelly scoring from a penalty given for handling. When the second penalty was awarded, the Bradford players made a protest to the referee, which culminated in Sanaghan being ordered off the field. With their depleted forces, Bradford were unable to hold, the United and before half time Furness added to the score with a beautiful goal from a centre by Turner. Although taking things easy in the second half, the United were clearly the superior side, and Furness and Turner scored further goals. A few minutes from the end, a miskick by Gadsby, in endeavouring to pass the ball back to Savage enabled Doyle to shoot into an empty goal The United now meet the winners of the semi-final between Selby Town and Bradford City.
